The 8 day Great Wildebeest Calving Migration Safari is designed specifically to focus on following the Great Serengeti Wildebeest migration during calving from December to April. The areas to be covered are Lake Ndutu area, as well as the Southern and Central areas of Serengeti National Park where the majority of the wildebeest are usually found. A visit to the world famous Ngorongoro Crater is part of this safari as well.

Day by day itinerary

Upon arrival, our safari representative will highly be available to welcome and cheer you up as you transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport to your hotel in Arusha. Our staff will answer all your queries regarding your upcoming safari and provide you with a short briefing as well. Get enough rest to overcome the jet lag at your accommodation

With an early breakfast, your guide will pick you up and proceed to Tarangire National park one of the largest national park in Tanzania located in Manyara region, this place is characterized by the large herds of elephants, tree climbing lions, and the fascinating baobab trees also called the Tree of Life for its almost mythical powers that some cultures attach to it. This park is especially known for Tarangire River which flows all year round and the only source of water for wild animals during dry seasons.

After breakfast, you will drive up into the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. There will be a chance to stop and see the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. You will then transit through Ngorongoro highlands to the Serengeti. The Serengeti is truly spectacular. It is famous for its vast open grasslands which allow for excellent sightings of wildlife. The Serengeti boasts an abundance of wildlife such as giraffes, impalas, buffalos, crocodiles, and hippos. In addition to the iconic landscapes, you have a good chance of encountering predators and you may see lions, cheetahs and leopards. After your game drive, you will head towards your accommodation in time for dinner.

Its yet another day to explore the Magnificient Serengeti during an extraordinary full day game drive exploring the Seronera Area. With a more relaxed day a head, we shall do early morning and late afternoon game drives, returning to your accommodation for a hot lunch and some relaxation. Everyday in the Serengeti plains is so unique and there is always plenty to explore.

With breakfast at leisure, we will set off for Ndutu area situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which is part of the southern Serengeti eco-system. Lake Ndutu like most other rift lakes is alkaline however the water is still drinkable and consumed by a wide array of local wildlife. We will spend the afternoon with a game drive in the Ndutu area. The majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to April. The area is usually heavily populated with elephant, birds and resident game.
Accomodation: Hereitage Ndutu Migration Camp 
After a hearty breakfast, you will head out to enjoy a full day’s game drive in Ndutu. You will explore the range of different habitats found here including swamps, woodland and savannah. With luck, you will see vast crowds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope, sometimes stretching to the horizon. The sound of the wildebeest gently mooing is hauntingly beautiful. During a short time frame (normally in February), many of the female wildebeest give birth to their young, dropping over half a million young in this incredible act of synchronized birthing. The grass provides little cover and the young are easy pickings for a variety of predators (cheetah, lion, hyena, and leopard). Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they are born and within 3 days they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd.

After breakfast, we shall have a game drive through the Ndutu area hoping to see more predators and baby wildebeests as we head to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, look out for giraffes as they make they way down the lush slopes. Our target is to go down the crater Rim before lunch time. The Ngorongoro Crater at first sight looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness including sweeping savannah, pockets of acacia woodland and glistening lakes and swamps. The Crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. The drive down into the Crater is an adventure in itself and when you reach the Crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The Crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands. After the Crater Rimexploration, we shall check out and head to Karatu for an overnight.

With a lazy breakfast, we drive to mto wa mbu (River of mosquitoes) for a morning cultural tour and walking safari. We can decide to have a lavish local lunch in the areas before we head back to Arusha or to the airport for your flight back home with lots of African memories.
