18 Day Uganda Safari from North to South

Experience Uganda safari adventure from north to south. From The Nile River to Kidepo Valley NP and to Bwindi Impenetrable NP Start by heading to the untouched wilderness of Kidepo. From there continue the journey to the south with highlights of boat-cruise, game-drives and chimps trekking on the way. In the south, you will meet the gentle giants of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the Mountain Gorillas. Along the way, you discover Uganda’s varied nature and friendly people.

Arrive at Entebbe international airport during the day/evening and be met by our safari guide to start your Uganda safari. You will be taken to the hotel to rest after the flight and be ready for the adventures starting tomorrow.

With breakfast at leisure, we head for this adrenaline adventure on the Nile as we juggle through the rapids and falls. We get lunch at the hotel and have a relaxed evening.

Early morning peaceful breakfast as we head to Sipi falls, relax for lunch and in the afternoon we start to scan for Peregrine falcon launch wing exercises for catching inferior prey in the valley! Lunch today on the hanging pristine views, evening tour of the falls and the coffee ceremony fitness needed as we hike around the highest waterfall in Uganda and combine the coffee processing ceremony with the people.  A combination of the hike and the community local trails give you beautiful views of the area and on your way to the bottom of the three levels of waterfalls.

We leave the stunning views of Sipi Falls in the morning and start the journey through Pian upe wildlife reserve. We have a drive with nice sceneries ahead of us and count the most unique setting to the North of the Elgon Mountain achieving over 2700 kms.. Karamojong wilderness area drive. We continue our journey off the beaten track by going through the tribes, hopping for a market day to visit the tribes, it’s a very very remote area with a scenic reserve, local people, Karamojong markets in the most un touched area and remote village set up are the highlights especially the livestock fields on the remote wild Motorway. On arrival, we have a cultural experience in Nakaperimoru village (Largest Karamojong village in East Africa) that will bring you into contact with Karamojong peoples at Karenna and Kapedo. Meet the local elders and have an opportunity to interact with them. They will show you the kraals, the grinding stones and many items that are more interesting

After breakfast set off for Kidepo valley National Park. In a landscape of vast plains and semi-arid savannah framed by jagged mountains and wooded hills, Kidepo is one of the wildest and most spectacular reserves in Africa. Evening game drive

The morning-game drive takes us towards Nataba gate area for the cheetahs and other lower grassland mammals. The landscape throughout Kidepo Valley national park is studded with small hills, rocky outcrops and inselbergs from which one can obtain stunning views in all directions enjoy panoramic views of the Narus River Valley and photographic opportunities of wildlife from all corners.  An evening game drive along the Narus River Valley for game Viewing and photography of Elephants, herds of Buffaloes, Jackals, Jackson's Hartebeest, Klipspringer and possibly Lions

After breakfast, we leave Kidepo Valley national park, maybe catching some last sights of its animals as we drive out. Continue through remote parts of Uganda through the city of Gulu and target for lunch at the rhino sanctuary.

With breakfast at leisure, we proceed to enter the Giraffe paradise of Murchison falls national park. You will visit the top of the World’s strongest waterfalls before crossing the ferry for an evening game drive towards the hotel.

In the morning, we set off for a game-drive in Murchison Falls national park. On the broad savannah, you search for big cats, Elephants, Giraffes, Buffalos, and more as the checklist of mammals reaches 76. We continue browsing the circuits to the delta point for a cocktail of birds and mammals. In the afternoon you go for the 2pm boat ride on the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls where you get to see the Hippos (You have never seen more hippos yawning, Grooming in there Pods anywhere else than here- Believe me you), Nile Crocodiles, Elephants and a variety of beautiful bird species along the banks. If you are a keen birder, this might be your magnet to catch them.

This is a driving day where provision should be made to allow 6-7 hours on the road. You will depart Murchison falls via the rift valley escarpment road offering spectacular views over Lake Albert to the DR Congo and West Nile. You will proceed via the towns of Biso, Hoima, Kyenjojo and onto Fort Portal to your overnight accommodation venue within Kibale Forest National Park at Primate Lodge. The venue is great starting point for Chimpanzee tracking. En-route to the lodge we will shake off the long drive with a walk to the “top of the world” along crater lakes, which this area is also famous for.

An early start and a long day are ahead of you! Today you will track chimpanzees and will not only learn about them but also about the flora and fauna of the national park.  In the afternoon, visit the Bigodi community. Bigodi village is situated in the highlands of western Uganda, in the shadow of the Ruwenzori Mountains, the famous "Mountains of the Moon". Our community is located about 40 kilometers south of the town of Fort Portal, and borders Kibale National Park, which has the highest density of primate life in the world in its forests. Since 1992, the people of Bigodi have worked together as a community to open our natural beauty to eco-tourists and to bring our crafts and handiwork to the world.

With an early breakfast, we then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, with a target to have lunch at the hotel. Option to drive further southwards with the Rwenzori ranges (Longest in Africa) in view or drive through the Crater lakes in the Hills through to sample out the surprising diversity of Savannah trees and wildlife! In the late afternoon After lunch, it is time for the Classic highlight of the 2hrs boat-cruise on the famous Kazinga channel, a 36kms channel linking Lake George to Lake Edward. On the banks you can see land and water Adapted Hippopotamuses Yawning and some slashing canines to each other, the National Geographical society Killing machine the Nile Crocodile gaping along the Banks and Savannah versions of Pigs the Warthog- Pumba of the award winning Lion King are a hallmark sign in this Animal home!

Today is yet another great day to explore experience the amazing nature of Queen Elizabeth national park. We explore the Kasenyi Plains with great chances of seeing kobs mating before we head out to the famous adventurous vast savannah of the Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth NP with Topis, the southern version of Elephants and hopefully with the lions high in the Fig tree branches. This is one of two areas in Africa where lions have the habit of regularly climbing trees to take a rest.

With an early game drive in the vast Ishasha plains, we look out for predators like Lions, hyenas and leopard before coming to the lodge for the brunch and later Transfer to Buhoma sector of the Northern Bwindi mountain gorillas through a beautiful drive taking you from the savanna via cultivated hills to the jungle covered mountains of Bwindi. (If we reach early we can do the walk and mix with the locals or relax with the Orphans group performers)

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is the home to the forest giants that are cousins to human beings, the mountain gorillas. A specialized guide into the jungle will take you in a group for your gorilla trekking adventure. Trek through the beautiful nature and spend one hour with the gorillas, an unforgettable experience. This Impenetrable Forest is also full of birds, butterflies and plant species plus forest hog, forest elephants, statungas and duikers. After the trek, your guide picks you and you transfer to Lake Bunyonyi through cultivated hills. After this afternoon drive, we check in to a lake 1840m above sea level for some rest. It is deservedly nice after trotting from Kampala since day 1 and some early starts - without any rest. Transfer and boat cruise on Lake Bunyonyi There is a short list of activities: canoeing, swimming (safe in this lake), hiking along the lake-shores, return to the hotel and relax / canoe ride along Lake Bunyonyi with small resident and exotic bird species singing.

With breakfast at leisure as we enjoy the great views of Lake Bunyonyi and the famous Virunga Mountains as we do a canoe ride on the lake, we shall then drive through the rolling hills of Kabale until we reach the savannah plains of Lake Mburo National park. On our way we shall be able to see some savannah animals like the zebras grazing together with the Ankole long horned cattle, the impalas, buffaloes, topis among others. Overnight at Rwakobo Rock Lodge overlooking the endless views of Lake Mburo national park

Early morning safari walk from the lodge. Get early up for chance to see zebras, waterbucks, birds and buffaloes in their day break jungle life! After the walk it is time for breakfast at the lodge before you start the drive to Entebbe. Have at the Equator and take the chance for some photo poses where the southern- and northern hemispheres meet.
Accomodation: Rwakobo Rock Lodge
We have an early transfer between 7am – 8:30 am, after breakfast transfer by ferry to the IBA wetland swamp of Mabamba wetland. The highlight at Mabamba Swamp is a search for the prehistoric looking Great shoebill stork. Here we also find some aquatic birds and marsh Harriers, if time allow search for the beautiful painted Pygmy goose. Return to the lodge for a hot lunch and refreshment before heading to the airport.
